The Science Behind Bifidus
WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH BIFIDUS?
Bifidobacteria are a natural part of the bacterial flora in the human body, and are recognisable under a microscope by their Y-shaped structure. Henry Tissier discovered them, in the intestinal flora of breastfed babies.
HOW DID WE GO FROM BABY MILK TO YOGHURT?
After seeing the beneficial effects in babies’ intestines, further positive research data gave Danone the idea to introduce Bifidobacteria into yoghurt. After experimenting with several Bifidobacteria, Danone’s specialists selected Bifidus ActiRegularis®, which is able to survive and grow in milk. Bifidus ActiRegularis® is exclusive to Activia® and is an integral part of our formula and fermentation process.
GOOD TO KNOW
Each 125g pot of Activia® contains 4.4 billion Bifidus ActiRegularis®, which is proven to survive the passage through the entire gastro-intestinal tract. Why’s that important? Because it means that they are still viable when they reach your gut, so can help to stimulate the growth of good bacteria.
