Yes. Activia® is a yoghurt because it is fermented, not only by Bifidus ActiRegularis™, but also other cultures including two that are used traditionally in yoghurt: Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus.
Where can you buy Activia®?
Activia® is available at all major retailers and can be found in the yoghurt aisle of Woolworths, Coles and IGA.
What does "+100x probiotics stronger" mean?
For probiotics to provide health benefits, they must survive the journey through the acidic stomach and reach the later part of the gut.
In collaboration with The Deakin University Food Research Centre, we tested our probiotic against regular live culture and the results showed that Activia's probiotics survived stomach acid 100x more than the live culture. **
The survival of probiotics is crucial as it allows them to populate the gastrointestinal tract and exert their health effects. Activia helps reduce digestive discomfort when consumed daily (at least 250g) as part of a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet.
What is the difference between a probiotic and a regular yogurt culture?
Yoghurt cultures and probiotics are both live bacteria. However, probiotics are proven to provide a health benefit, when consumed in adequate amounts. Regular yoghurt cultures are mainly used in the yoghurt fermentation process to add flavour and texture.
What is the benefit of probiotics surviving stomach acid?
To provide health benefits, live probiotics must be present in the later part of the gut – mainly the large intestine and colon – but before they get there, probiotics must pass through the acidic stomach. Surviving stomach acid allows probiotics to reach the gut alive, where they can exert health benefits.
Our study found that compared to yoghurts that contain a regular yoghurt culture (LDB) and no added probiotic, Activia Bifidobacterium lactis probiotic has 100x more survivability against the stomach acid, which means more are able to reach the gut alive, where they can exert a health benefit.
The survival of the probiotic is important as this mechanism allows the probiotic to populate in the gastrointestonal tract and exert a health effect. This allows Activia (as a whole) to deliver its health benefit, which is a reduction in digestive discomfort when at least 250g is consumed daily, as part of a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet.
I've been eating Activia for a long time. Has it always been 100 times stronger than stomach acid?
Our recent research shows that Activia's Bifidobacterium lactis probiotic is 100 times more resistant to stomach acid compared to other yogurts with regular culture**. We cannot confirm how many times more resistant they were before, but this unique probiotic has been used in Activia since it was first launched in Australia in 2011.
Is the reason Activia relieves digestive discomfort because the probiotic in Activia is 100x stronger in survivability against stomach acid?
Activia's ability to relieve digestive discomfort is supported by 18 clinical studies. The survivability of Activia's probiotics means more can reach the gut alive, where Activia can exert their health benefits.
